Located in Beaver, Pennsylvania, Beaver Supermarket is a family-owned, independent grocery store. The store has been a staple in the community since its opening in 1945 and is best known for its meat department run by skilled butchers. Beaver Supermarket also has strong partnerships with its vendors, which allows them to provide unique products and special deals to their customers.
Kevin Camp is the new owner of Beaver Supermarket, but his father ran the business from 1978-1988 when it was sold to him by the original owners. Beaver Supermarket was his father’s first grocery store, and Kevin would accompany him to work as a child. Kevin then began working for his father at 14 when he was an independent owner of several Giant Eagle grocery stores. He started as a grocery bagger and worked his way up to store manager. This experience allowed Kevin to not only learn about the grocery industry, but about customer service and the financial aspects of running a small business. Kevin eventually transitioned to IT industry, working at Best Buy and then in the corporate world. However, Kevin missed working in the grocery industry and began looking for opportunities to buy a business. He still shopped at Beaver Supermarket and soon discovered the owner was putting the store up for sale. Kevin met with the realtor and owner to discuss his potential ownership, and it was a perfect fit!
Now that Kevin was determined to purchase Beaver Supermarket, he needed the financing for the transaction. Since Kevin didn’t have enough capital to purchase the business outright, his brother recommended an SBA loan. After a few interactions with other lenders, the realtor for the deal recommended FNB of Pennsylvania and put him in touch with a local banker. The banker then introduced Kevin to Adam Whitaker, one of our experienced SBA Business Development Officers. Adam evaluated the deal and saw the potential for an SBA loan, so he helped Kevin prepare everything he needed to get started. Adam guided him through every step of the process, staying in constant communication until the loan officially closed and funds were disbursed. Kevin’s SBA loan enabled him to acquire Beaver Supermarket and the store’s real estate, all with a low down payment.
Here is what Kevin had to say about his experience with Adam and the team at FNB Small Business Finance:
I never thought I would have this much support from a bank. Adam was a great partner for this transaction and he wanted to see this deal work. He was phenomenal, and I was blown away by the amount of help I received from Adam and FNB. I would recommend them a thousand times over to any business owner.
Congratulations to Kevin on bringing Beaver Supermarket back into the family! We wish him luck and continued success on his business ownership journey.
