Morgan Family Aquatics in Richmond, VA opened in June of 2012 with the mission to join with the community to prevent accidental deaths from drowning by providing priceless training and information to children and families. The Morgan family had taught swim lessons for over 15 years, always using backyard pools or hotel pools. While they had been successful teaching outdoors in the short summer season, Tim Morgan and his family saw a need for a facility, unique to the area, which provided year-round service and focused on swimming.
After pursuing franchise partnership with Aqua Tots, Morgan sought out assistance from Loan Officer Dave Phillips regarding financing for an indoor swim facility. SBA funding was the ideal solution for expansion, as limited assets made conventional financing an impractical option. The partnership with Aqua Tots and the SBA loan Phillips was able to secure made expansion possible.
In addition to the year-round swim facility dedicated to teaching water safety skills to the community’s youth, the SBA loan afforded the Morgan family the cash-flow to provide between 15-35 additional jobs, depending on the season. Since being able to extend operations to a year-round basis, Morgan Family Aqua Tots has seen a substantial increase in profitability, and it is reported that they now see around 2,000 children and their parents weekly for classes.
Morgan says of Dave Phillips:
Because of his knowledge of and familiarity with our business I find him very trustworthy and I have come to see him as a friend since we began working together. I appreciate that he goes to bat for us and helped turn everything around in a short period of time.
Morgan has had such pleasant experiences with Phillips in securing two SBA loans for the business that another SBA loan is in the works to fund their third location. Phillips “was able to streamline what can be a difficult and complicated process and made it go very smoothly,” says Morgan.
